Love this reel This is a high quality reel the likes that you don't expect in this price range of reel. the quality that you get with this Model you would expect to pay in the $300.00 dollar range. it is a great reel. The handling is very responsive to your moves, and casting into the wind is not a problem. I brought in a 13lb. Red Snapper and a 21lb. Red fish and was a breeze. January 29, 2009
Broken right out of the box!! Purchased this reel last year brand new and never used it. Well today, 4/9/11, I finally took it to my local tackle shop to have it spooled for my girlfriend so we could do a little surf fishing in the morning. Well not even 5 yds into the winding of some new line the reel locked up!!! We pulled the end cover off and found the gear that drives the level wind stripped out. i cant believe this happened to a brand new and expensive Abu. I was looking to purchase a new Alphamar and Toro inshore reel for this years fishing season. Now my confidence in Abu Garcia is totally shattered. Guess my girlfriend will just have to watch me fish tomorrow:( April 9, 2011
best reel ever I just purchased this not to long ago from bass pro shop and i was going to use it for catfish. i finally caught him!!!!!!!!!!!!! it was a 62 pound flathead catfish i had been chasing my whole life. i had hooked him countless times before and the reels i had couldnt hang on to him. i use it on a 8ft heavy rodand use bass pro shops excel braided 50 pound line with a monofilament leader i made. it handled him perfectly and reeled him right in.thanks abu garcia and bass pro shop best reel ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This reel breeds confidence. I purchased the 7000i HSN to fish specifically for Summer Fluke off of NJ. I have fished it 3 consecutive summers and out of all my bottom fishing reels this is the one that comes with me on every trip. Be forewarned the reel is heavy. But that weight, in this case means strength. It handles dragging 8 to 10 OZ. of lead all day long, brings the fish to the boat with ease, and with a minimum of maintenance is ready for the next trip. I made it a point to inspect the drag washers and removed some excess grease, it has performed flawlessly. A very content fisherman... August 16, 2011

Hi, of these two reels the 7000ic3 would be the best choice for casting.

Per Abu Garcia they are launching a new reel in the Abu Garcia line-up this month that will be the best casting reel in the 7000 size!! BY-7000 AMB 7000 BLUE YONDER BCAST REEL

I enjoy fishing the surf for Reds, Speckled Trout and Shark on the Texas coast. I'm looking for a casting reel that will give me the most casting distance.

I personally use an 8 foot med heavy graphite rod coupled with an ambassador 6000 c when I am chasing bull reds in the gulf and have even landed a 9 foot hammerhead with this combo.

I would say if youre gonna surf cast you can use the Abu Garcia 7000iC3 it can handle 600+ yards of 30lbs braid. With an 8'6" casting rod and 3oz. of weight, I can get over a 110yard cast! Almost any baitcaster will do. But the Abu Garcia is all aluminum and stainless steel. no graphite that can twist and bind and especially no plastic. I have just started using this reel and the first weekend I got this reel I caught over 20 fluke, and 4 to 5 nice blues over 20 lbs and this reel is a WINCH! Pulled that fish like it was 2 lbs. And this reel has a centrifugal brake with minimizes backlash to almost non existent!

specs say 20lb. But I know if you tighten up the spool pressure button it should raise it up from that.

I prefer a 10-12 foot lamiglass rod with Fuji eyes and reel seat. However your rod choice may be vastly different depending on what you are fishing for. You will want a rod that is capable of handling 8 oz weight and up to 30 lb line.

On my current set up for boat fishing I have mine mated to a Shimano TRD Trolling rod with plenty of fighting power and have landed 30 lbs fish no issues. When fishing from the surf I use a 10'6" surf rod I forget the manufacturer and with 2oz weight for light surf I can get about a 350'+ cast!
