Spincast Reel They don't make 'em like they used to. I believe my 40 year old spincast reel was much better quality than the ones made today. When I first removed the spool cover I had a hard time lining up the cover to put it back on but once I got the hang of it I was fine. Overall, for the price, it performed adequately and on a recent trip I caught quite a few fish with it. I'm surprised that there are so few companies making spincast reels these days. August 10, 2013
Nice solid reel I bought two of these, one for me and one for my wife. Neither of us had fished in a very long time. The reel works very well, is lightweight and quiet. I did have an issue with mine as I use it a good bit,... the cast button broke on one side and after getting it wet it would hang up the line on a cast now and then. I lubed the pick up pins and mechanism with some 3-1 oil, dropped a few drops down the crank and it now works better than new. Even with the cast button tab broken on one side it works well. I think if you are looking for a casual fishing reel, this one is a winner, might want to step up a bit if you are fishing more than once or twice a week. I know I am going to have to step up some as I am on the lake almost daily and use the reel for several hours. June 23, 2011
This one may be a lemon! If I didn't get a lemon then this product should be taken off the shelf. I've only used the reel about 10 times and have already had the line get caught in the internal mechanism twice. Once I had to take it apart to free up the line. Putting it back together was another challenge. Also the take up is not at all smooth; it acts like there is sand in the gears. On the other hand I have been able to land quite a few nice bluegills with this reel so I guess it's not totally useless. July 20, 2011
Thumb button and drag issues I would give this reel thumbs up, if it were not for the thumb button always breaking. Also, drag setting issues. I love the distance and smoothness with the cast and retrieval. I can cast just about any light lure that I want to. I am on the fourth thumb button and it just broke. Ordered 5 more. After several trips of hard fishing and long casting, I can count on the thumb button to break inside. You can use it this way for awhile, but eventually, the button will fall off-out. I have spent more on thumb button assemblies and shipping than the reel originally cost, but I like using this reel. If you do not mind ordering and replacing thumb buttons, then try it. If Abu Garcia can solve this problem, then I would buy another. My wife and daughter have one and they have not had this problem, but they are not continually casting, as they bait fish more.
