The AMS Bowfishing® Big Game Retriever Pro is made specifically for shooting larger aquatic species. Alligators, sharks, etc. are fair game with this reel. The AMS Big Game Retriever Pro has a extra opening in the side of the reel above the handle. Now instead of tying the line to the inside of the bottle, the line can be doubled back and attached to a float or deep sea casting reel. Use the Big Game Retriever Pro to shoot those aquatic beasts that need room to run. When you hit your prey, let it pull all the line from the reel and take the float. Follow the float to it's location and get in a second shot! Made in USA.
Made for big game
Filled with 400 or 640 lb. braid
Big Game Mega Floats and BreakAway Arrows and Bolts sold separately.
AMSBowfishing® Big Game Retriever Pro Bowfishing Reel
Great Reel for Fish and Gators
I purchased this setup in 2007 or 2008 (the design has since been improved), but I love it and it is still working great. I've shot over 1/2 dozen gators with it, and numerous fish. It doesn't reel well with small line (hence the 4 stars), so I keep my gator line on it when I'm bowfishing...that's the only downside. I couldn't begin to count the number of fish it has shot (or shot at), but I love it and would recommend it to anyone looking to get into bowfishing that requires the detachable feature. If you are only after small or average size fish, don't spend the money on the Big Game retriever, go with one of their other reels...but stick with AMS.
I've also used a Zebco 808 reel with 80# bowfishing line and it eventually broke after extensive use (no, I did not forget to press the button). So, my personal preference is for an AMS reel when bowfishing, and the big game reel for larger game that might otherwise yank your bow out of your hands!
