To use this guard on a lure like a spoon or crankbait as the add suggests, you would have to remove the treble to slip the guard over the eye and then reinstall the treble on ths split ring. That is more work than the add implies.

As for hooking, problems are similar to Texas rigged worms. It depends on how you cover the hook point-burrying it deep or leaving it near the surface.

Is it worth the trouble? Yes, if that is the only way to achieve your presentation in weeds.

I think that the "Treble Guards" intended purpose is to be used on plain treble hooks that are not installed onto lures. The treble guard would of course be for storage of hooks and would be removed to fish with.

Hooks mounted or installed onto lures would use either a rubberized hook cover or a hook bonnet. They would also be removed from the hooks for fishing.

The plastic is very soft and I don't think it affects the strike... I don't use them anymore...
