St. Croix® Avid Series® Trigger Rods

Already one of the great rods of our time, the Avid is now even lighter, stronger, more sensitive, and superhuman than ever. High-modulus SCIII graphite blanks were re-engineered using exclusive IPC® technology to make the actions nice and crisp and put that "weightless" feeling in your rod hand. Black-framed Fuji® Alconite® Concept guides--light and sensitive--are the perfect complement, as are the precision Fuji reel seats. The select-grade cork handles have all been re-thought and re-shaped; for pure comfort and leverage, there's really nothing comparable! Manufacturer's limited lifetime [Read More]

A:
What are you fishing for? I would lean toward the MH fast for most inland species. I fish mostly for bass and use the MH for all of my baitcasters except soft plastics (I use a MF for Texas rigs with a bullet weight and MXF for weightless plastics if baitcasting) and only use the HF for flipping/pitching. Jigs will work great with the MHF. Hope this helps.

yes, a swimbait rod and, more so than a swimbait rod, a flipping stick.

A:
I have a Legend Tourney 7'9" HF with a mod fast action and use it for swimbaits. It is a very similar rod except for the telescoping base. It does a great job tossing swimbaits, even the heavy BBZ Trout lures.

I'd say a 6 1/2 or 7 ft medium action is a great all-around rod for a variety of baits... that being said, if you have the money, it's better to have several rods for different applications. The 2 basics/must-haves, in my opinion, are a medium action spinning rod and a medium-heavy action casting rod. These will truly cover 99% of your fishing situations.
