Free Spinning Prop

Details:
I recently received a Prowler T55/40 as a gift and promptly lost the manual. I notice that the 3-blade prop is NOT tight and spins freely. Turning the central hub doesn't seem to help. How does one tighten (and conversely, remove) the prop?

Staff Answer
A:
Detaching the Propeller
Unscrew and remove the locknut using the propeller wrench supplied, taking care to hold the propeller with one hand to prevent it from revolving. Do not loosen the locknut with a hammer or similar tool, as this may cause damage to the locknut or shaft.

Once the locknut has been removed, the propeller can be taken off easily. Verify proper fit of the groove and shearing pin when mounting the new propeller, otherwise the propeller will not attach properly.

Also, you might contact Customer Service for an Owner's Manual by calling 1-800-227-7776.

A:
You need to use a 12-Volt Deep Cycle Marine Battery and then you can use a 12-Volt Charger. A car battery will not work for marine use.

A:
the 2 colored tabs on the upper shaft area are pushed and held, thus pushing the pins out and away from the slot and allowing you to adjust the tilt in either direction. Upon relaseing the colored tabs, the pin slips into the adjustable slot at the angle you have selected.

Seems as though you'd need a shorter shaft, otherwise your arm would be up high steering the boat.

A:
You will want to measure your boat when it is fully loaded with gear and people for a regular day of fishing. Measure from intended mounting location (transom or bow) to the waterline of the loaded boat. Then add 18 inches. That's the shaft length you are looking for.
