Nikon's advanced ID (Incline/Decline) Technology allows hunters to range targets from a treestand down into a canyon or in other steep terrain with the same confidence and ease as ranging over flat ground. Compensates for various shooting angles up to an incredible + or - 89° (nearly vertical up or down!).

If you do not hold the rangefinder in the vertical plane you will get bad readings, I am sure this is because of the angular/distance computations the rangefinder makes.

Yes it works great off the ground. You have an on and off arc mode which does that for you. The distance from ground and from treestand.

Yes it will work at ground level. I stepped off 20 steps (which should have been just short of 20 yards) and used my rangefinder. It showed that I was 19.3 yards away from my target. I continued this out to 50 steps and the rangefinder was right on everytime.

what is the diffrence in the arc feature between this and the rifle hunter if any. is this for just arrows or will it work equaly well for both arrows and bullets.

It varies on the distance and angle. I have seen a1.5 to 5 yards form ground to stand.

Both Archers Choice and Rifle hunter use same technology and provide horizontal distance to target.
Archers Choice is limited to about 100 yards, and is set to closest target priority. Prostaff uses farthest target priority and the Rifle hunter gives you the choice.
Don't limit yourself unless you absolutely can't afford the $40 difference. Very useful to know how far you need to sneak up to be in range and is the cover you will be using is close enough to critter.
