I've got 6 of these little reels and love them. I use them with 2 and 4 lb line and have caught trout up to 3 lbs, bluegill up to 11", and small bass up to around 15" with them with no problem.

Its a good reliable reel and if you fight the fish properly with a good drag setting and have a decent rod you should have no problem. But you must also keep in mind the bass size. If you handle the fight well you could probably land a 5 pound bass. Fishing is mostly technique. Just keep that in mind. you could always upgrade to 4# test to be safe. goodluck fishing :)Details:

I would steer clear of braided line on such a light reel. honestly with such a light set up you wont need the higher strength that comes with braided line. if your looking for more power and less stretch try fluorocarbon,A:
Yes , braided line works great on this reel does not hang up it cast smooth and the more you use it seems like the better it gets . On my set up i use 50 lb test braided equal to 12 lb mono not going back to mono no more =)Details:

I would say its a pretty good all around reel, though i dont go trout fishing all that often. With trouts hellgramites work the best, also try ggrubs.A:
Perfect reel, use lite line 2lb on one spool 4lb on the extra spool that comes with the reel with a small rod. As for live bait, you cant beat nightcrawlers. Dig'em up yourself cause there starting to get pricey. Go with crickets as it gets later in the summer along with crawlers. If you can find some salomanders by the stream thats a jackpot, browns go nuts for them but there sometimes hard to find.A:
I've used this reel a lot for small trout and have been very pleased with it. I use Powerbait dough, night crawlers, and small spinners with it.

Yes, I like it because of how small and lightweight it is, it is a very well performing reel for ice fishing, but not for much else. -ChasA:
I have several of these reels and have used them for ice fishing. They have worked well for me in temps down to -5. We have caught bluegill up to 10", Lm bass up to 15" , trout up to 21", and burbot up to 25" without a problem. Just use a good lube that can handle the cold.A:

i dont know much about the reel but a great rod choice for backpacking is the bass pro brand microlite. it ranges from UL to M action and is a 4 piece rod so it can be fit into a fairly small spaceA:
I been taking this reel with me on fishing trips with the bicycle. It is very light and takes up little space. I use a two piece rod (MLS56ULS-2 ) that I either strap to the bike or just let stick out of the top of my backpack. A telescoping rod might be better for backpacking though.A:
