The butt does not come off but you might try the The Balancer™ Rod Balancing System Item Number: 38-400-240-00, which fits onto the rear end of most straight handled casting and spinning rods.

A: 
There are Catmaxx poles that break down in two or three pieces as well as the smaller one piece rods. There is a 15 foot model I've only seen in stores that is a 3 piece rod.

Is the difference between the CM70 and the CM80 just the physical size of the reel? Also can this reel be swapped between a righty and a lefty?

A: 
The difference is the line capacity and the drag weight. The CM70 holds 190 yds of 25 pound test, where the CM80 holds 290 yards. The CM80 also provides 2.2 more lbs of drag resistance than the CM70. I personally own the CM70 and haven't had any problems or needed the additional features of the CM80.
It can be interchanged between RH and LH retrieve.

Difference is physical size, 80 holds more line. Both can be switched easily right to left handed.

Yes the difference between the two is the physical size of the reels. Both have the same gear ratios and line recovery, but the CM80 holds an extra 100 yards of the same diameter line. Also the handle is reversible so it can be used as a lefty or righty.
