These rods feature a relatively quick tip so as long as your using a line thats good for casting like trilene xl or a smaller braid then yes is will throw the lighter weights without a problem as long as your not throwing a delicate livebait that might be torn from the hook. But the 8' model is one peice, thats something to keep in mind when transportation is an issue.

I HAVE USED IT TO CAST 1 OZ TO 3 OZ. DISC LEAD SINKERS. I FEEL IT CAN HANDLE THE WEIGHT BUT THE FEEL MAY NOT BE THERE. I USE IT PRIMARILY FOR CATFISHING WITH LIVER OR LIVE BAIT.

IT DEPENDS UPIN THE LENGTH I OWN THE UGLY STICK 7 FOOT ONE PIECE AND THE EIGHT IS TWO PIECES. I HAVE THE CATMAXX 9 FT. POLE WHICH TWO AND A TEN FOOT WHICH IS TWO PIECE
