There is an adjustment screw in front fo the lever to apply the proper pressure for holding the hook. Reading the manual or onbserving a video about the fly tying vise will help you immensely.

I just dial the round adjustment nut tiny amounts to get the right snug fit. The lever to clamp down it just that...lever it down and your ready to ty. It holds well enough to bend a hook.

Hook Size

Details:
The description says it holds a "variety" of hook sizes. I tie mostly bass and saltwater streamers. Will this hold a 3/0 fly? If so it sounds like a great deal. I wish they would be more specific.
Thanks!

It opens up pretty good but I cannot say for sure. I fish panfish mostly. I know it works on the walleye hooks I have but most saltwater hooks I have seen are a bit more stout. Try posting on Lake Link. A lot of good fisherman out there.
