I am looking for a wind speed and direction indicator for my boat...it is a live aboard type boat in fresh water...and really don't want to spend $500.00 + if I can help it. Does anyone know if this unit would be sturdy enough?

This item will tell you the temperature, wind, and rain from the wireless sensors not your location. Therefore, it will work in Mexico.

The more critical question is is the relay unit handy enough to change batteries. Your placement is limited to wire lengths feeding into the relay. You may find the relay on your roof and you will have to climb up there to make changes or alternations. This item is not totally wireless.

Wind-fan and wind-vane needs to be able to rotate freely before fixing the
unit. For correct and accurate readings it is important to mount the sensor so that the
front (marked E) is pointing in East-West direction. The wind sensor should now be
mounted using the screw or cable tie provided onto a solid wall/ panel mast or mast to
allow the wind to travel around the sensor unhindered from all directions (ideal mast
size should be from diameter about 5/8” to 11/4”).
Once the wind sensor is fixed onto the mast, connect the cable to the corresponding
thermo-hygro sensor socket so that operating power supply can be received and data
can be transmitted to the base center.
