Just reel it in,watch for the vibration in your line,when it reaches the max vibration that seems to be the best speed.

just reel it in --- medium to medium slow- but one night as it was getting dark I started reeling it super fast so it even broke the surface occasionally and I got a big blow up on it- I didn't hook him but the incident is worth noting---

I try to figure out who the fish want it. Most strkes seem to come on a steady retrieve. Speed of retrieve seems to be the variable. If the fish are shallow and aggressive, I put the rod tip up and increase the retireve. When bass are in the jumps I slow down a bit and with a steady retrieve through the bait fish.
