does the barrel come blued?

No, you will have to blue the barrel. I had good luck with the cold-blueing method. Make sure to get ~all~ the finger oil, dirt, smudges, etc. off the barrel before you blue it. (I left a bit of thumb-print that is now lightly "blued" into my barrel *grin*). I also found getting a good dark coverage took a little longer than the blueing instructions said.

on most kits the staining of the stock and barrel blueing is a do it yourself project that is why it is sold as a kit that way the consumer has a better understanding of how their gun works and great sense of accomplishment

yes, I shoot both all the time. for balls, I use a .010 patch and .490 ball, and I am able to shoot one hole groups @ 50yards. Sabots, I buy the 45calber sabots, and I load mine with 300gr 45 pistol bullets. I have not group tested this load because I sighted it in off hand at a paint can, but I have killed two hogs with this load.

on this one i have heard some people useing sabots but mini balls are always fun and the safer option
