I want the holders just to use as rod holders on my boat for going to spot to spot. I may also use them for very light trolling. What would work best, 30 or 15 degrees?Answers
A:
15 degree would probably work best for you as the main use is a rod holder with an option of trolling. I have the 30 degree holders and they angle a bit more.

15 degree holders are better for transporting altho 0 degree are best for transporting. With the 15 you can troll and still have adequate angle to "Read" your lures action.A:

Take the gasket that comes with them and position it where you want rod holder. Draw around the INSIDE of the gasket. Remove gasket and drill a 3/8" hole. Take a jigsaw and cut the hole (you may have to shave more of the hole near the froward part if you have thicker gunnels (w/30 degree holder). apply 4200 sealant under gasket and screw down. Then go fishing. Takes about 15-20 minutes to install. They will easily fit OEM openings.A:
If you don't have one already. Use a1 1/4 inch hole saw for origional hole. then use a dremel tool or file to elonggate the hole for the proper angle. drill 3 holes and use s/s metal screws. If used as gimbal mount for downriggers add metal plumbers tape attached to bottom of rod holder and lock it down to a solid mounting ..problem solved

They are stamped. I have had mine on my Sportsfisherman for 3 yrs now and the chrome has not flaked or begun to pit yet. Gimbal pin is mushroomed wich I prefer because they are easy to chang out for special applications or repair. The whoe reason I replaced my originals...
