Details:
I'm looking for new 4lb line for my ultralight setup for trout fishing and wondering about the silver color. Is silver a good color for line-shy trout?

I know that Bass Pro Shops use to sell Silver Thread AN40 in a Moss Green color. I don't know if Silver Thread still makes that color or not. I have used the Moss Green 6lb test for finesse fishing for bass in Japan back in the late 80's and early 90's. Maybe you could find that Moss Green color on the Silver Thread web site or... ask Bass Pro Shops if they can get it for you.

I love it. It is the only color I use. I catch large amounts of trout on my silver and it is easier for me to see while fishing. I use it in small mountain streams to catch native trout and in all the streams around home. It's also the only line I use in the river for Bass, Walleye, catfish, etc.

Its called silver thread but its a basic clear mono. Not considering weather conditions and water quality, my experience tells me if you, yourself, do not spook trout on your approach, the 4 - 6lb silver thread will perform as well as any other line, including flouro's.However, 4lb may be a bit light unless you have streams without obstructions they can dive under. My friends and I have lost many 12" plus brook trout in Upper Michigan, even with 6lb test, in small streams when they were allowed to "run" and break you off on something.
