A:
Should have the red and black wires or you can use the MKR-18 Trolling Motor Plug & Receptacle, purchased through Minn Kota.

A:
For a 14 foot boot Minimum Thrust would be 35 pounds but then you will need to know the boat weight, which a 70 pound thrust is good for 3500 lbs weight (boat, gear, people). Hope this helps. Thanks

Replacing MinnKota 565

Details:
Have a Bass tracker 17.5 1989 fishing boat. My orginal Minn Kota 565 gave up the ghost so I have to replace it. Want one that is easy to install and more worried about the electrical connections and not having to put new holes in the bow. Also sort ot would like more thrust as the original is only 28 lbs. Do not need all the bells and whistle just something to get around the lake. Thanks in advance

Installation of the Edge Bow Mount Trolling Motor is easy. A 45 lbs thrust or a 55 will pull your boat with ease.

A:
I have used an Edge by Minn Kota for several years and yes the shaft looks slightly bowed when in the stowed position. Do not be alarmed this is what makes the shaft resistant to damage when it hits something. If it was made of material that was rigid it could possibly break. You should be able to remove or install the motor while in the stowed position but it would be easier to do it while the motor is in the operating position.

the longest size available would be better for a pontoon. you can always raise it to make it shorter but you can never make it longer

A:
I would measure the shaft on your Motorguide first. Then I would match the shaft length when purchasing a MinnKota, as long as you're satisfied with the battery life and power of your 46lb. thrust. If the price difference isn't much I would step up in power, b/c you can never have too much power in a trolling motor when you're on the lake during a windy day. It shouldn't be hard to convert to the MinnKota at all, other than having different mounting hardware. If MinnKota has different hole patterns on the mounting bracket then you may have to epoxy some holes and drill new ones. Another thing about MinnKota TM's is that they're wider than MotorGuide's. That was a problem with my Nitro. The MinnKota wouldn't fit in my recessed floor location, whereas my Motorguide fit perfect. If you don't have a recessed floor location for a TM then ignore everything I said! Hope this helps in some way.

A:
I recently bought a Minn Kota for my boat, and i found when you measure the existing motor you should measure all the way to the top of the head and buy that replacement length. Mine turned out to be a little short because I didnt know that. but it still works ok.

Iuse to have a older boat and it was kind of heavy. It had a 45 lb. thrust on it and I was never really satisfied with it. i have a newer boat and it is lighter and the 46 lb thrust works well on it.

I have an Alweld 15' with 44" bottom. I have a mounting place for it on the bow but I also have lights extended on my side bumpers on the trailer. I can not have it over the side, it will catch the lights.
