Yes, depending on how far and secure it is in the ground, I'd say any fish over 3 LBS could pull this into the water if you don't secure it into the ground.

I think it's around 1 1/2" inside or close too.
All of my straight handled rods will fit just fine, but not a pistol grip shape.
The rod holder section only covers about 4" of the handle so if the back of your rod handle is long this might not work.

They fit standard fresh water cork handles well good clearance. appx 1 3/8"

There's about 5 or 6 in to stick down into the ground before you put the handle of you rod into it. Once it's in there, I don't think you have to worry about your pole getting away!
