I like to fish these beaver bugs texas rigged with a Gambler Florida weight that that is filled with rubber which hugs the line and keeps it in place where ever you slide it to. I usually keep it tight to the hook/head of the bait, even super gluing the "Van Dam" style to the head of the beaver. I use a wide gap hook with a radical R bend to help hold the bait in place. This weight can be slide along the line to any position and it will stay there. As far as action goes, short jigging action and shaking in the weeds and lilly pads works for me. I use a MH action 7' or 7'6" Heavy rod with 30 to 50 lb spider wire stealth line. In clear water, tie on a 6' florocarbon leader with a double Uni-Knot. Buy the DVD video of Kevin Van Dam called "Pitchin' to Heavy Hitters". You'll never fish the same old way again.
