I bought this rod to use as a pier rod. I looked at the shakespeare site and noticed the MH 7' has a lure rating of max 5/8oz. The rod feels much stronger than that. Does anyone have an opinion on max lure weight and if I have wasted my time buying this for a pier rod?

A:
The ideal pier rod should be able to bring in a two-pound, wildly flopping fish. Look for a soft tip Rod and is rated for handle 12 to 50-pound test line. One- or two-ounce weights are the norm. Look for a surf rod for Pier Fishing.

First pole I ever owned... It did not have a "clicker" whenever I owned it. The only click noise it makes is when the drag is being pulled on the reel.

Yes. You just need to put the right rig on your pole, and it will do what you want it to do.

A:
I haven't caught any yet, but in the places where I fish with this pole there are huge stripers. I am certain that it could handle them. I've hauled up 20 pound carp on it, and I believe it could handle bigger fish like the 30 pound stripers here in our rivers.

stripers are a bit to big for this rod but it depends on the size of the catfish. i catch catfish with this rod but i use a fifteen pound test line so it depends on the size.
