The Summit website says it should only be used with their aluminum climbing stands. If I were to guess, I'd say it's because the self tapping screws included with the footrest kit aren't made for tapping into steel. If your stand is aluminum, you might be able to make it work, but per Summit's instructions, it's not recommended for anything but their aluminum climbing stands. With a little ingenuity, you might be able to drill pilot holes in a steel stand and use the screws that come with the footrest, or maybe replace the screws with some that will work with steel, and it should be fine.
