Depends on the cord diameter -- too thin and the crimp won't hold and too fat and the cord won't thread. Assuming it is in the right size range, put a fat knot like a figure-8 into the end of the cord before closing crimp so it won't slip back through even with wet slippery nylon.

Frankly I'd not use nylon -- tarred line like trot line would be easier to handle. However, to each their own preference.
