A:
you rate of retreival determines the depth, if you want it to stay between 2 and 3 feet then as soon as it hits the water reel fast and steady.

no bobber is no good to maintain a specific depth use longer rod prefer 61/2 to 7 ft and always hold rod tip up to control depth

In my opinion, using a bopper is a no-no. If your concern is fishing 2-3 feet of water, try using a shallow crankbait or something top water. With a bopper you can't make use of that sporadic movement and noise making ability as well.

It would have no action. Try holding the rod tip up higher as needed.

Every circumstance has a good and better lure for the situation you need to try different lures until the fish tell you what they want.

Rat-L-Traps will outfish any lipless crank no matter size or color...i use all the red hook colors and catch all kinds of fish. If you use the tiny trap you will cach litterally EVERYTHING.

Each model has it's own unique sound and vibration. With all of the variables out there, sometimes it's hard to second guess a Bass. The best thing to do is get one of each and try them out in your neck of the woods. Keep a log and see which one is the most productive.

No one lure is better in every situation than another. Buy them both and see what the fish want on any given day the odds are they will change.

I prefer the Bill Lewis baits. Perhaps, because they're a better fisherman lure, but I find they have more adjustments, and the paint lasts longer when fishing rocky rivers and lakes. Plus, they seem to come in more sizes.

That being said, the Cordells are cheaper, so I use those when fishing near heavy cover where a Rat-L-Trap could get hung up.

Finally, I prefer the action of the Bill Lewis Lures. I haven't done a side-by-side comparison yet, but it seems to be a louder lure with a more pronounced vibration.

Color is determined by you area and your water clarity. For clear water use Gold with black trim it works well for me.

I really like the Orange Crawdad and Toledo Gold colors. they seem to work well for smallmouth on the rivers by my house.

Tequila Bleeding Shad is another color I use for evening largemouth fishing on the lake.

I've tried Rootbeer, Gold, and a few others, but I'm not convinced color plays a huge part compared to the rattle and flash. I use the colors I use often, because they are carried by a local store with a limited supply, not because of any strong preference...although I do find myself catching more on the orange craw color.
