A:
Go to the Shakespeare "Catfish rods", I use 50# braid with those for Giant Redfish bottom fishing, rather than the striper rods that are lighter action.

Same rods, just the catfish models are heavier.

I am deciding whether to get this rod or the catfish rod. I plan to use it for fresh and saltwater and would like to throw 2 oz. if at all possible.

I'm not crazy about this rods action at all. If you prefer a stiff rod that can horse fish, get the catfish model. Its heavier, but I prefer it to the striper rod.

Best Reel?

Details:
I originally bought the BPS CatMaxx reel, so I could string up some 20lb braided...but it doesn't fit on this pole?!?

Which reels would work on this pole and support 20lb test?

i'm an avid striper fisherman and i can say that majority of people on lake hartwell, murry, clarks hill, and sante cooper, all rig these with abu gacia 6500 C3's. you can use up to 25 lb mono,it has a bait clicker, and still has a low enough gear ratio to winch in a 40 lb fish.

I bought an EXTREME 40 for my Striper rod and it performs very well. I use 30lb power pro on the reel. I get long smooth casts and great feel !

Check out a Penn 9m or 209. I have an old 109 on a regular ugly stick and it works great.

I would think so, works great for stripers on the Ca delta, and I have caught a few cat's with it as well, good backbone and a nible tip, easy to read bites on the bottom, hope this helps.

If they're good for Redfish/ Cobia/ Black Drum in deep swift saltwater, they're good for kitty-cats.

I have 8 of them and use them daily
