It all depends on what you are fishing for, and the area you are fishing in! An old saying says match the hatch! You can rig it weightless, with a jig head, drop shot, Texas rigged. It all depends on what your fishing for and the area. Try all the techniques until you find one that works well in the area your in. But when you change areas and fish species, the techniques may also change, or stay the same. Also you may be more comfortable with one technique over the other ones.Hope this helps?

I have used this jerk shad two different ways! The first is weightless, with a 5/0 wide gap worm hook, and the other way is with a 3/8 jig head. I fish for striped bass next to the fish processing plants' discharge pipe. I use the jig head method to simulate a feeding smelt or minnow. I use the weightless method to simulate a dying minnow, just let it go with the current and give a twitch every once in a while. Works very well for me. Hopes this helps!
