The largest tube that came with my vertical stuffer was about 1 1/2" diameter.

Yes, the 5lbs stuffer has metal gears. I've seen the one from Great Northern that comes with white plastic gears and it seems a little cheap.A:
Mine has a black steel gear, no plastic. The plunger is a thick, hard plastic with a groove that the O ring rides in but that part is very stout.A:
