do you cut through the rib cage? while cleaning white bass etc my friend cuts up to the top of cage. I did cut the ribs and the knife (not this brand) got hot did not like that route on the larger fish.

A: 
Depends on how big the fish is. I cut through 13 inch crappie without any problem. I usually cut around the ribs on large bass and catfish. Most freshwater electric knives aren't made to handle that much work, they will overheat and die.

yes i cut to the back bone then down then i cut the ribs out, this knife has a fan in it so it dont get hot. have have used every other knife on the market and they all get hot but not this kinfe

yes i cut through the cage then trim the fillets when im done... this knife goes through like butter and does not get hot...

its coiled up its 3 feet but when you pulll it get up to about 5 1/2 to 6 feet

its only a couple of feet but i always use extension cords anyway.... the cordless electric fillet knives dont last long and you have to buy extra batteries...ill stick with the corded models
