I have one of these and it is for rods only.
I have been able to get at least a dozen rods in it without any problems.
This is a solid case and it protects your rods very well!

No it does not lock in place but there is a supplied pin that you use to lock it in place after you have adjusted the tube to the desired length that you need. I have mine set at a little over 7' and set it in place and I have never had any problems with it collapsing...the holes are 3" center to center and the plastic casing is very durable...so no worries for it breaking!!

Yes, it does stay locked in place. There is a clip that locks when extended.

I got 12 rods into the case alternating the direction and there was lots of room.

This case is designed for one rod, but its large diameter may accomodate more than one rod.
