The hooks are #4, and they don't need to be switched out. I pulled in 4 bass around 5-6 lbs. each on one lure with factory hooks last spring, with no hook deformation.
I would go panfishing in your lake and see what type of little fish are in there. Then try to match the color with that off the little fish. Bluegill is my favorite but I only really fish in the same pond everytime.
It depends on the water clarity. If the water is clear, use colors like Brown Craw, White, Bluegill. Silver and brown colors work the best. If the water is stained, use colors like Crawfish Boil and Fire Crawdad, use brighter colors. In dirty water also use bright colors. Blue Back Chartreuse, Chartreuse Green Craw, Chartreuse Perch. So not to make it complicated, just remember this: Brighter colors in dirty water, lighter colors in clear water. Hope this helps.
I have all the color that they offer in these lures is the PEARL BLACK SHAD. This color has produced the most fish out of all the colors that I have used.
As far as i know these baits only come in one size and I've caught fish on every color i have and i have about 8 or 9 colors. Cast 5-6 times, if no strikes, switch colors, try to match the color with the lakes forage.
