The coating is flaking off in high wear areas like the shoulders, elbows, and the hood where the push button adjustment thing is.

The jacket is about 5 years old and has been great until the rain we got today.

Details:
For several year I have had a similar set of raingear like this that each piece packs into its own "pocket" which makes them easy to carry in a back pack on the trail. I was wondering do these do the same? I'm looking for something inexpensive and compact for my scout to carry on a weeklong trip. Thanks!

It does not fit into its own pocket, but it rolls up nicely into the attached hood. I think it would work great in a back pack. It Just for fun, I tried to roll it up and got it to about 8.5 inches by 3 inches...and it would prbably go smaller too.

Details:
How does the size run on this jacket? I normally wear a large but if I want to layer under, should I get an extra large.?
My chest is 40-42, I am afraid X-large, fiting 46-48 may be too large.

I bought the size L and it fits with room for layering underneath. I have a 44 inch chest so I would recommend the L for you as well.

Buy normal size, will accept underlayer without problem. I'm an XL, often buy XXL jackets but bought the XL here and have worn sweat shirts and hoodies with success.

They seem to run alittle big so if you wanted to layer you could with no problem of tightness occuring.I have purchased a medium and a large and have no problems with layering.

The jacket is not lined, however it does have a nice vented area along the middle of the back/shoulders. It weighs about 11 ounces. It has velcro straps at the wrists and drawstrings at the bottom and neck.

No worry of corroding as the zipper is plastic with a metal zipper pull which when zipped up all the way is covered by a small flap protecting it from the weather
