A:
Generally you don't have to "match the hatch" with bass. While they can be choosy, bass will eat just about anything. And bass seem to be "programmed" to love crawdads.

I almost always fish these baits Texas rigged to good effect so, no, you don't have to fish them with a jig.

Yes! Try them on a "keeper" hook, and a weedless rig. My favorite way to fish them. No weight,

I've used this in very clear moving river water. It's great because I'm able to see the movement of the jig and plastic trailer. When pulling this bait behind a drifting a jonboat, the claws do move with the water and appear lifelike, but they do not "float" upwards. I've also dropped it straight down from the boat in shallow water and let it rest on the bottom. The claws do not float up.

A:
The short answer is no they are not made from floating plastic. However most soft plastics have a little natural bouyancy and can be rigged to make them point up while resting. The BPS Cajun Bubble Craw has floating pinchers but it is not designed primarily to be a trailer.
