What size boat is this recommended for?

I've got a 16' Proline w/ 40hp Merc and a "junkyard" winch....it was cheap and I got (get) what I paid for.

i have a 16 ft nitro (fiberglass)with a johnson 60 horse total weight approx 1600 lbs. this winch pulls it up dry carpeted bunks with NO problem

i have a 17.5' starcraft fishmaster with a 75 horse and my trailer came with an 1800 lb winch so i would expect the 1600 to be ok for your boat.

How wide is the spool?

Details: 
I am looking at buying this wench, but I have to make sure it is narrow enough from side to side (gear to gear) on the spool itself. It can only be 2 1/2 inches wide at the spool. Can one of you guys help me out with this question? Is it inside 2.5?
