A:
I would use braided. I put 50lb Power Pro moss green when I had this reel and it worked fine. I wouldn't put 30lb mono, this reel is pretty small.

A:
The reel is not rated for 30 pound mono test. If the line is braided it would be ok, otherwise not.

If it's braided it won't be a problem. I put it on mine when I had this reel. It casted fine when I used Power Pro Moss Green 50lb test.

This reel is listed to work best with 12 or 16 lb test line with 200 yards.

We do not have a listing for 20 lbs test line, but it will not hold 200 maybe 165 or so.

I wouldn't recommend this reel for catfish. I was reeling in a 5lb drum and this reel wasn't that reliable. I would hate to reel in a big one with this reel. If you want a cheap reliable reel for catfish. Check out my reveiw on Bass Pro Shop Snagging Special Reel.

A:
Casting with this reel is very easy, however if you are not used to level wind style reels they are a pain. Best go practice at a park with a weight only. The key I have found is too toss the instead of really trying to fling it. As you cast keep an eye on your weight or lure and just before it hits the water put your thumb on the spool and stop it then release it again to let your bait or lure settle into position straight down from where it entered depending on movement of water. But practice a lot with it and you will be fine.

the drag might not be heavy enough. I don't think it is more than about 12#. If you think you have a good chance at a blue cat that big, I would probably go to a bass pro cat maxx or abu c4 or c3.

If you put 40-50 lb test on the reel, you will make it very easy for a big fish to spool the reel. My advice to you is to get familiar with braided line. Power pro is my favorite, but there are others to choose from. For example, the power pro on my shimano stradic is 50lb test, however it has the diameter of 12lb mono (technically it seems smaller than that because my reel holds more of it than the manufacturer states possible). Get familiar with braided line. It is more expensive, but it is worth it. That way you have tough line, but you also have plenty to let a big fish run with. Braided line also doesn't have to be changed once a year like mono.... It can last 2 or 3 years depending on how much you use it. I hope this helps. TIGHT LINES!!

Depends how heavy your lure is and what action your rod has. This is definitely and economy reel. I use it for catfishing where I "throw" 2+ ounces of lead with cut bait. There is only the spool tension knob for cast control.

I wouldn't go over 20-25lb test. I would look for the line that now has the 40lb capcity but the thickness of 20-25 lb test.
