They do! I just purchased one at our local Bass Pro Shop in Orlando. They only had the 1/2 ounce size in two color patterns (gold and silver), but I wanted a floater to stay out of the weeds, so I bought one of each.
I use it in areas where there is a lot of grass and weeds and keep it close to the surface and it works great.
Flotating lipless crankbait might defeat the purpose of cranking!! :-) But the Super Spot does come in a 'suspending ' model, which I used and found that it catches fish, also; especially if fish are schooling or near the surface feeding. Otherwise, I like the cranking models to bump stuff and catch fish.
for me , ive tried to pay attention to the natural bait in my fishing area and do the best i can to match the forage available. although some of my favorites are ,firetiger which is always a winner in my book even when bass are finicky . but also red craw works well in pre spawn stages. and a surefire bet would be kvds sexy shad. my overall slammer is just plain chartruese beccause no matter what stage there in they just cant resist .good fishing bro.
Chrome/black back; chrome/blue back; Foxy Momma and Foxy Shad. On a partly cloudy day : gold/black back is good. Later in the year, when it's hot and sunny most everyday, the other colors come into play and you can experiment, but always tie on the above 4 first, given the situation.
I dont know the exact size of the hooks, but I can tell you they are pretty big. You will not have a problem hooking fish and keeping them on. I hooked a fattie and I didn't have the super spot tied on good and it broke off...Heard the fish jumping out of the water the rest of my trip trying to get it out of its mouth but with no luck
These 1/2oz. baits come with #6 eagle claw trebles . I do change the front ones to red eagle claw trebles myself . Just a personal preferance that I do on most of my cranks except topwater and jerkbaits and even a few of those too . I also change the line tie split ring to an oval shaped one to . But these baits will perform quite nicely right out of the box and if you put on bigger hooks you wont be happy . They definitely will tangle nearly all the time. Good Luck !
All of the Cordell Spot lures that I have purchased have an "O" ring on them.
Maybe yours snuck out of the factory without getting one installed on it.
If you like having the "O" ring on your crank baits, you can always purchase a small package of "O" rings and put one on it yourself.
Sometimes I take the "O" ring off of the crank bait because it can wear your line down and break off if the line gets stuck in the spot where it splits.
When I do take the "O" ring off, I usually tie my line directly on the crank bait using a Uni-Knot with a small loop in it. This way you have a good line connection and can still get plenty of action out of your crank bait.
i have always tied a fishermans knot as i know it directly to the lure .i see it insures my bait to swim true and natual . as far as the o rings go ,i bought 22 different patterns and all of them have o rings on them .maybe think about buying a pack to install yourself , they should be inexpensive . best of luck.
The Super Spot does come with an O-ring. Sometimes I'll replace the roound O-ring with a more rectangular o-ring design, and I use a Trilene knot on a fast clip instead of tying directly to the o-ring. Bass often hit these baits so aggressively, and you bumpt them off of stumps and rocks so often, that the paint jobs take a beating, and so the fact clip helps me re-rig quickly, and I have confidence in the Trilene knot.
I tie my line directly to the lure. these lures have a good rattle, without the need for an O-ring. Just to check, I tied a loop knot last night and it didn't make any obvious difference. Likewise, I tried a few casts with an O-ring attached, and it gave this particular lipless bait much less action. My recommendation, for what it's worth, is to fish the lure as-is, and tie directly to the lure.
What I do is buy some snap swivels and cut the swivle part off and tie mthe snap to the line using a polomar know. Good for quick changes and it works. Check your ling for bad spots every so often and retie if needed. Good luck.
The best way to fish any crankbait since it is a reaction bait is to make it bump into cover or jerk it over the top of grass. The bait needs to be erratic and not just wind it steady.
This is a great search bait. In the Summer, I like to go for long casts into open water and quickly fish it past structure, hoping to lure out a largemouth lunker.
In Springtime, I use this on rivers and fish it from downstream to upstream ensuring a slow, even retrieve, pausing in slacks created by rocks, trees, etc. This will lure the smallmouths out everytime.
Me I fish it through the weeds. jerk it twitch it reel it fast and stop. Sometime I slow roll it it depends on how the like. The more you fish with them the better feel you get for them.
While fishing local tournments on Big Sam in Texas, most guys were throwing the Rat-L-Trap. I switched to the Super Spot because it gives, to me, a different sound. Caught fish!!! Stayed with Super Spot since then....not that I don't encourage my partner to throw the Rat-L-Trap; never know and helps to cover all bases.
If money is no object and you can afford to loose six or seven buck on a break off get the more expensive baits. But I've found that yhou can catch nice Bass on the Cottton Cordell and if you loose one it doesn't dent your pocket book so bad. They catch fish and that is what it's all about.
i have both and in my opinion niether out-performs the other. get them both and try them out. if you don't like one Im sure someone would want it, i know some pro shops will buy used lures.
All of them are good- depends on how much you want to pay. I personally think if a bass sees any of them it will eat it just depends on what brand you have the most confidence in
I was putting our boat in 10 feet of water and had my 25 HP outboard cut right down in order to troll. We had no problem getting down to fish (northern pike). They sink fairly fast, so I think that helps keep them down.
These baits go about 5-6 feet when reeling in you can adjust that by the speed of your reeling though. Faster will keep it higher and slower it will sink. I cant help you on trolling as i do not have a boat :(
