These would work provided they have the weight you need...although I suggest putting either a coat of black epoxy if they're the standard brass color.

A:
It is a suitable replacement. The only disadvantage is it has a bulkier profile than tungsten but I'm old enough to remember when this was the preferred flipping weight. If you combine it with a glass bead, it makes a loud "clicking" noise, much louder than lead or tungsten, if you are trying to imitate the sound of a craw's pinchers clicking.

I heard that the production of lead weights is going to be stopped because of the environmental impact. Does anyone know if this is this true?

A:
It is already true in New York state. Lead weights and shot are under attack at the federal level by some environmental groups through the EPA but President Obama's administration has not jumped on the band wagon. Keep your representatives aware of your opposition to its regulation in the fishing/hunting industries if this is a concern of yours.

A:
There are no national regulations to my knowledge, but there have been several states looking at legislation; best to check local regulations, for some specific waters the use of lead is already verboten.

In the interm the answer is no...the lastest from Washington is that the lead ban is not going into effect in the near future. With that being said, there are companies that are trying to perfect tin weights in response to the price complaints of tungsten weight. So if you're a die hard lead user the federal government isn't going to regulate it as of now, but your state my regulate it. (i.e. California)
