roughness

Details:
I need 5-10 pound test spectra that is rough, either mono or braided. I believe the braided, which I have not seen, might be what I need. This is for hairing a cello bow as a replacement for horsehair. The roughness, which in horsehair is created by the scaley surface, serves to hold the rosin. Current synthetic horsehair is neither strong nor rough enough to equal horsehair. Any comments? Thanks!

I have no idea what your talking about, but braid is tuff. 20 lb braid is as thin as 6 lb mono and you can check out the product at any baitshop. They have the fishing line 3" or so displayed on every package. You can check all of them out.The problem is braid is very smooth. Hope this helps.

Depends on the size of the line but if u use a steel leader or even a very heavy mono leader u shouldn't have to worry about it butting thru it

No, I've caught 2 sharks on the same line without trimming it and not leader. Their teeth were on the line but didn't bite through, they were 10 and 5lb. Bonnet head sharks with much larger teeth then pike. It is also difficult to cut the line with pliers. Though to be safe I would advise putting on a leader just in case because eventually the braid will fray and better safe then sorry.

Yup. A sharb edge will cut through braid line no problem brother. I like 15lb Fluorocarbon for pike. I dont need a leader and it holds up well.

A big pike might have teeth sharp enough to bite through, but it is unlikely that it would be hooked in a way that the line would be near it's teeth. If you are worried about a bite off, just use a steel leader.

I spooled my spinning combo with 20 lbs. test Power Pro and caught Red fish and Snook no problem. I would recommend a stronger leader line for Snook as they are prone to slice line with their gill plates. Good Luck!

Yes it cast well on a spinning reel I use 10 lb test. Lighter line will obviously work better on a spinning reel.

How do I tie on mono

Details:
I want to put 20lb test braid on my VanDam series spinning rod, but how do I tie on the mono for the best strenth. Also can i tie on say 10ft of it on without messing up my cast?

A:
the best know to use when trying mono to braid is the uni to uni knot. it is supper strong and does not slip. Tying on a 10ft leader kinda defeats the purpose of having braid on there. if i tie a leader on it is usually only 1to 2 feet or less.

I use the Uni-Knot you can find many site on how to tie this. It slides right through your guides when casting. I would recomend using a no stretch leader depending on what you are doing. Like flourocarbon or Flouroclear which is also less visable...

You'll want to tie on monofiliment backing to your spool, and fill the spool halfway up. Note that "halfway" is not halfway from the spool to the rim, as you always want to leave 1/8" of metal showing around the rim.

Then, try the braid to the mono using a double-uni knot. Google that knot and you will find several illustrations on how to tie it. Very durable and easy to tie. Good luck!

I tie on Flouro as a leader when walleye fishing. I would recommend a uni / uni knot - which can be found on Knot Wars.

It is possible use a uni- knot. Look it up online it's hard to explain without pictures. It works well just test the knot by pulling on it to make sure you did it right.

I usually use 14lb or 15lb mono backing on most of my reels. Its really up to you, but look at it this way...if you had a fish big enough to spool your reel beyond your braided line, what do you want backing it up? Good luck!

try to use the same diameter mono as the braid diameter is, as for what kind, i usually use the cheapest stuff i can find as long as theres no chance of the fish stripping off all the braid.
