I have no doubts it could easily handle a 5lb Bass! I Landed a Carp on it that easily went 25lbs on 6 pound test using an ice reel while chub fishing this last spring!

I don't know what kind of fiberglass the rod is made of but it should easily handle a 5 pound bass if I can handle a 15 pound carp with it

is a light rod, i don't recomended for a heavy fish butt with a good quallity size 10 reel and 6# test line if u really know how to use the drag u will get a 5# out of the water .
is a solid fiber glass rod, is very flexible ( no esy to set the hook on a big fish )

it's made of a type of fiberglass called E-glass. The longer rods can handle bigger bass and cats better than the short ones. I've caught a 5lb bass on the 7'6" model with 4lb test. All bets are off if there are thick weedbeds and/or timber in the area. The shorter rods can't put as much leverage on larger fish. And the longer rods still make medium sized bluegills feel like runaway trains. You won't be dissapointed in this rod as long as you realize it's a glass rod and not a graphite rod. It's not very sensitive, but it is the best rod for small hardbaits (cranks and topaters) with trebles.

kjm1995,
I've never had any luck with braided line on an ultra light reel.
This rod would be good for small bass, but you might heve trouble landing a big 5-10 pounder

I would not suggest it. The soft tip would make it hard to set a hook in a fish that size.

A:
The rod length all depends on where you fish. If you are like me, fishing narrow mountain streams with heavy foilage on either bank, the shorter the better. I use a 5'-5'6". But if you are in a wide open stream or lake, a 6'6" would benefit you. The longer the rod, the more precise your cast will be.

shobik,
Yes, I trout fish once or twice a year and I think this would be a good rod for trout.
You might have trouble with really light weight flies, but weighted lures should be able to be cast easily.

Yep. The trout do not care how long your rod is. The right place, right time, right bait and a can pole will do.

The 7'6" rod is as ultralight as you can get. It does have at least 6 eyelets. The price is very awesome! If you're mainly buying it to fish panfish, and the occasional larger catch like an accidental LM bass, you can't go wrong with the UL model. If most of what you're looking to catch is bluegills, sunnies, crappies and perch, this is an excellent rod.

Corwin,
I also have the 5' rod and love it.
I use it mostly for Crappie, but think it would work well for trout and small Bass.
It might be a little light weight for bigger Bass and large Catfish.
