I used 12lb flurocarbon. Depending on the model and speed of trolling/retrieve, some will go over 20 feet deep(!). Check the manufacturer's web site for their depth chart. I use these for Walleye and Stripers. Getting a bait down 20 feet is a good thing for Stripers.
We use this lure a lot when we troll for Walleyes. One of our favorite spots is a sand bottom that undulates 25, 26 , 27 feet and this lure punches that bottom consistently. I use 20 lb fireline and have 100+ feet out on a 1.5 - 2 mph backtroll. I do not use a line counter reel so the line distance is not exact. You may need to tune these lures out-of-the-box but you cannot go wrong once they are set. We use a clear body with the prism insert. I think the basspro colors are 3, 57 or 74. The walleye in the attached pic is 29 1/2 inches long and 10+ lb
