Depends on the light conditions of the day. For partly sunning to bright sun, I have found the Chartruse(yellow)/silver to work best. On more overcast (low light day) Black/Gold or Purple/silver. It goes to the general rule of light conditions use light lures;darker use darker colors
Same for Bass Chratruse/Silver Bright days. Black/Gold for darker days. I have read and experienced that fish rarely if ever have a real preference for color. Rather, light conditions make a certian color more visible than others at certain water depths.
the size depends on the clarity of the water, and time of the year. Till the end of July, I would use 2" or 3". Color, again, always have a burnt red with black ribs, medium green top, pearl sides and hot pink belly.
Not really. If you cast it softly, a brand new one fished on #2 o#4 test will float. Once you begin your retrieve, it wil sink to 18-24". The depth and thightness of the action can be adjusted, as with any crank bait, by ever so slightly bending the "eye" on the front of the lure. For these, very slight pressure from your thumb is all it takes. You can also adjust the dept by tieing on with a snap swivel or by adding a few coils of wire to the hook shafts. As you use this lure, slight amounts of water enter it and a well used one will no longer float
Yes, the lure is made in China. But, while I do prefer buying American made products, the lure works very well. It has a very aggressive action that big fish like! The hooks that come on the XPS lure are not very strong however. I change them to stronger(American Made) treble hooks!
Yes, Muskie will hit very well on nearly all the XPS / XTS lures (as will Pike). The best way to determine what color is best, is to try several different ones in different light conditions (cloudy, sunny, dawn, dusk, etc.). You will quickly find out which work best and when.
yes, color depending on conditions clear murky stained etc I prefer chrome black back, and the red yellow orange looking one and light blue and white one
Exact size is not critical as long as the replacement is not so large that it fouls the other hook. Experiment with slightly larger hooks and you can get this lure to sink more. Always use a pair of split ring pliers. The tool makes the process quick and safe.
You need split ring pliers. Then match the hook size is different for each lure. The middle size 1/4 oz (3 inch?) is about a size 8 hook. Four inch size is size 6.
Hook size is 8 on the 2 1/2" lure and size 6 on the larger one. If any of the hooks break, simply buy treble hooks at the tackle shop and install them. In fact, I replace the hooks on all XPS lures before I use them. They are much to soft and weak for any larger fish.
can't tell the best from the pics. looks a little like a silver carp. depending on where you caught it and from what body of water, it could also be a golden shiner.
Well from expereience this is better for big bass my biggest with this is about 4 1/2 lbs. But I have caught largemouth smallmouth rock bass trout crappie bluegill shiners chubs and even a shad. Basically everything in my area/range except a carp and catfish
