Here is the deal: I had one pond minnow and it worked great and loved it. It was a sad day when a bass stole it from me. When I had it though there was nothing special at all I did. Cast near the shore and retrieve at a moderate pace. I never fish for trout cause I live in oklahoma, How ever I have caught catfish on this so I do think you should be able to catch trout. I have had serious inconsistency with this product so my guess is thats most likely the problem you have as well. Also if it is not swimming straight this could be the issue so you just might need to adjust where it connects to the lure. (its the little metal thing on the front). I am no pro but if i were you and its a pain in the neck, move on there are two many baits and to little time. Hope I was a little help.

1st- I pretty much hook and land every fish on this lure. You might try a slightly larger hook on the back. 2nd-make sure the eyelet is straight and in the middle, I perfer a small splitshot about 12 in. up the line it keeps the lure in a downward motion. 3rd- I catch more trout on this than panfish by far.A:
Play with your retrieves. I have noticed that in different lakes, at different times of the year, and different weather patterns the fish react differently to the speed of action of these things.Most of the time I do a slower retrieve using an ultra light setup (4-5lb test line).
The getting off part is really getting to know this lure. I have found that when fish grab hold you really don't have much time to set the hook (I suggest replacing the hook with better quality as well). Unlike soft baits that are loaded with salt or scent, once the fish gets one of these in its mouth they instantly know that its not what they're looking for. Make sure you're line and rod setup are geared towards sensitivity and you will notice a big difference in your ability to land fish.
Never landed any trout on them... almost never land any using any lures because the lakes in my area really don't have any outside of the small qty that the DNR stocks from time to time.
Don't give up on this lure, once you find a method that works you will love them.

i use this in rivers for trout (brook, rainbow, etc).also, when fish are picky, just do a slow retreive, pause, twitch, pause, retreive, and you'll get the idea.

Use a twitch, twitch, pause retrieve to make the lure look like a dying minnow. This works a whole lot better for me than a steady retrieve.

i didnt think it was working for trout in the ghost (totally white with black dot where gills would be) color, so i colored the back black and colored the head red. (i've seen some baits in that color). but i read some reviews and they say that the ghost color works. now i cant get the marker off. (or would the bait work in the color that i colored it)(The whole back is black but i didn't color the whole head red, just a little in front of the black dot)Can someone PLEASE answer this question and help me out. THANKS!

i don't know how you would get it off, i would maybe try rubbing alcohol but if i was you i would just buy another one and keep the one you colored, you might have some luck on it.

You can try fingernail polish remover, but I don't know how that will affect the original finish. As relatively inexpensive as these are, I would just get a new ghost if I were you. The color you created sounds like it might work anyway, but I've found ghost to be my most productive color.

I used the bait at a trout park here in Missouri and caught a bunch of trout. All I did was cast it out and reel it in at a medium pace. I was just using a 5'6" ultra light spinning outfit and be sure to tie it on with a Palomar knot if you're using a braided line, as i do. I had the best luck with the gizzard shad color.

for trout just tie it up on 4 lb.test and retrieve it starting off with a jerking movement while reeling in and find the speed hey are going after and adjustyourself to that

I don't fish for trout really since I live in south Texas but I do 2 to 3 quick jerks and pause for at least 3 seconds for bass and sunfish.Answers

yes its good for trout and in the white color its also great for bass and sunnies crappies etcmaybe your doing something wrong in fact you probably are but there isnt ebough included info to help me tell you just keep fishin and try swithchin to the xts speed lure minnow 1 5/8 inch killer for trout

i have a couple of these and I can almost guarantee you these have a small rattle inside seems like a couple of beads or something of that sortthey will get you trout bass sunfish perch crappie and a couple other fish if you continue to fish them extensively
my only problem is that i have had them for quite a while but have barely used them and the hooks had begun to rust in my tackle box.
