Still the hottest lures going! Top-quality construction with ultra-realistic finishes. A superb "walk the dog" topwater with the water-spitting action of a popper. Glass rattles really call 'em in. Casts long; hits the water without diving.
Model 65: 2-1/2"; 7/32 oz. Model 85: 3-1/4"; 7/16 oz. Model 100: 4"; 1/2 oz. Model 115: 4-1/2"; 5/8 oz.

Love to fish Sammys on T-Rock. Best colors for me have been American Shad and I like the new Crack that came out last year when there is less sunlight.
I've fished all over the US and found that every "local" thinks his lake tends to prefer a color he had the most success with.
I would use this pattern consistently where ever I fished. I would use: Bright colors in stained to murky water. Natural colors in clear water, high sunshine Black or dark colors toward evening. Match the bottom color
i dont know what number size it is but the 4 inch is perfect i have cought one pound largies to 10lb stripers on the same lure so id go with the 4 inch
Bass will hit any of them.... I will throw a 100 most but i will throw a 115 or an 85 and you really have to try to figure out which one they are going to eat the best that day...
love the new 65 for stream smallies. walks better than the 85 in my opinion and the 100 doesn't draw nearly as many hits in the small rivers I usually fish.
The size HAS to be based on forage size. If not, then the larger the bait (115), the larger but fewer fish; the smaller the bait (100), the smaller but more fish you catch.
Like anything else, this is just a rule of thumb. In winter, large baits can shut down catches.
i fish the sammy alot and the sammy 100 will do the job on all bass belive it or not ive even hit rock bass and large blue gill on it..unintentional of course but surprising
I've fished the 85 to the 115. Depends on the size of the bait. I have caught large and small bass on both. If I had to pick just one, I'd go with the 100 because of overall performance and the fact that I can cast it a mile.
I haven't fish anything but the size 100 sammy and i probably won't, i can cast it a mile and i have caught everything from small size bass ( even perch ) to large bass. I tend to only fish top water early in the morning but I decide to pitch a sammy between two trees with lots of cover late in the morning and nearly got my arm broke by a bass.
Yes, both are topwaters. Sammy will sit a little more "nose-up" on a pause. Gunfish is thinner and throws a bit more water, and has a more pronounced side-to-side action than the Sammy (and is easier to fish for beginners). Both work great.
Personally, I think the Sammy is easier to fish. The Gunfish takes some time and fish to learn how to use. You really need to let the fish tell you how they want the Gunfish. I have caught tons of bass on the Sammy.
The sammy is a walk the dog bait. The gunfish is a popper style bait with the walk the dog feature. Basically they are very close to being the same but the gunfish spits water just like a popper.
sammy has a tighter wobble and light splash whereas gunfish has a wider wobble and bigger splash... both are great walk the dog baits.... tight lines :)
i would prefer it for all of my topwater baits actually... looks more appealing if you ask me... i've had good results with black feathered trebles too... looks more like a baitfish :) sammys from the factory don't come with feathered trebles but the 3" gunfish does and it's perfect for schooling fish! tight lines!
