I buy the Rainbow Trout blade for Silver Salmon Fishing in Alaska, it is a killer lure. I have also caught Largemouth Bass on it in my home state of Oklahoma.
never caught trout on one yet, but then again i've never caught a trout ever. they are not native to the lake i fish. I hear that trout will hit them. Fishermen i talk to always ask if i'm fishing for trout when they see what i'm throwing. I ALWAYS go for the solid gold blade. #3 brown/gold will slay white bass during the spawn. Largemouth love them too!
It depends what time the season, and which to use. Silver in spring and gold in summer and fall. I don't fish much during the winter. I found that either one is good as another.
depends on the water color. In stained with a dark rocky bottom I generally use a gold blade for trout fishing. When it comes to bass the same follows. Although I have had very good luck with black blades with either green or orange dots in overcast days. For some reason the black blades works especially good in early fall when vegetation is just starting to die. I think generally I have had better luck with gold blades. If the water is clear try silver with a white buck tail or silver blade with chartreuse buck tail. Good luck and hope this helps.
I would NOT recommend a touching knot but i would recommend a loop. My favorite is the perfection loop or the surgeons loop. the loops allow the lure to slide along the line there for giving it more action. Tight lines.
