what is the difference between the .019 and .040 pins?

A:
The difference is the size of the pin (.021 thousandths of and inch difference actually). The .019 would be for targets at a greater range and the .040 would be for targets at a closer range. If you where to try to use a .040 size pin on a deer at say 30 to 40 yrds. the pin would cover it's whole chest, so at that range a smaller say .019 or .029 size pin would be a better choice.

A:
I recommend the .019 fiber optic pins for all yardages (30 to 60, in my case), alternately between red and green. The thin pins are still highly visible and nice and sharp on targets at any range. I use a .029" green tritium/fiber optic for my 20yd pin, for short, low-light shooting.
