I hope I didn't make a mistake but...I got 4lb test low visibility green for the main line on a new trout pole I got (the main line on it was regular 6lb mono). I use fluorocarbon for leaders, but use mono for the main line on my poles. My other trout pole has 4lb clear Stren mono on it. Anyways, did I make a mistake getting low-vis green? Would the main line be better off clear? The lake I fish at is a little murky here and there, but can be pretty clear a lot of the time so I'm not sure....Either way if I have to get clear too, it's inexpensive, but just want to learn/make sure first.

Depending on the conditions the color can matter, I love the moss green and it has yet to let me down. Try usin 4lb main line and 2lb leader cuz thicker the line the pickier the trout get. Hope this was helpful

If you're using a clear leader than the color of the main line doesn't matter at all.

No. No colored line disappears under water. When the line reaches the depth at which that color of light is filtered out the line turns to shades of gray.

Just bought line and have used it pretty frequently. Does the clear blue line tend to turn yellow from use or is it from using it in Lake Erie and other different bodies of water.

What line should I get?

Details:
I am going to be getting the Quantum Kinetic. I like Stren a lot. It's way better than Berkley Trilene. I just don't know if I should get braid, fluoro, or mono. I like their Stren Original in Clear Blue, but it seems to turn a yellowish hue after a few uses. What should I use?

Baitcaster or spinning reel? For spinning reels I use fluorocarbon, for baitcasters I prefer braid. I've never had a lot of luck with fluoro on baitcasters as it is very stiff and tends to backlash quite easily. Braid is extemely limp and casts farther than other line types. I use fluoro on spinning reels because I usually use my spnning gear for soft plastics and fluoro sinks. I don't use mono for anything anymore. Too much stretch, too much memory.

I was going to use it on a 6'6 medium action Ugly Stick Rod . With the Abu Garcia Black Max baitcast reel. Do you think this will be a good combo.

I would not hesitate using Stren Mono in the setup you described. As I stated, I prefer braided line, but Stren has proven to me to be the best all-around line to use.

Yes, your combo should work very well for this line. Stren's mono line is really abrasion resistant and casts very well. I also, recommend you get KVD's line and lure which will help you keep your line in good condition. If you like watching your line for the strike or want maximum camouflage go with the clear blue florescent or the low vis green. The clear blue doesn't extremely light up like the gold but will allow you to see where your lure is going. The low vis green will work very well in stain to off-colored water. I highly recommend Bass Pro's Megacast Baitcasting Combo as a back up rod to yours.

Yes and no. Monofilament overall is good for cranking because it has flex. However, reel quality can get you here. I have a Johnny Morris Signature Series combo that I run with BPS line. I'd give it a shot, and if gets a lot of loops/backlash, switch to the BPS line.

It should work just fine. i've used it before on my baitcasters and it worked great. I much prefer trilene if you need to cast longer distances

I think the combo would be nice. The only thing I might change is the rod , for about the same price you should check out the tourney special I have one and love it.

Depending on the fishing you are doing, this would be a great combo. If you are making short casts around trees or docks, it will make it a little easier on you if you are not used to doing so. If you are going to do some serious crankin' or worm fishing in some nasty cover, I would go to at least a 7' MH rod for further casts and a little more backbone to horse em out of the cover. Hope this helps and have fun!!!!

Yes, but try to keep the line between 8-12 pound for cranking because this is monofilament.

Yes, Stren makes a great line that performs well. Your rod and reel set-up would be good for crankbaits.
