Does this particular rod holder work for both Bait Caster and Spinning Reels as well? I like the hard plastic locking ring versus the soft plastic strap which is available on the other Scotty Rod Holder.

Yes it will work for both types of reels, but the spinning reel will be upside down which is not a problem. The solid ring is far more secure than the soft plastic strap.

Work well with either and are foam lined . no scuffs as the plastic is poly and is not hard enough to cause damage

The Scotty Rod Holder will stay on a kayak just as well as it will stay on a boat, just ensure you have the holder seated into it's base properly.
