It can, but the amount of rods you can fit in it significantly decrease. At best, you could fit bait/spin cast reels. I highly doubt you can fit spinning reels in it. I'd recommend a reel tote. Most people do this when transporting long-distance.

It will be hard to put it in and get it out you have to do it with care only with rods or you can damage the guides

Question asked months ago but I thought I'd answer because I was at BPS today and looked at these cases. To answer the question, No, it does not hold reels. It is for rods only. Given the size it is probably is capable of holding 1 rod with reel or possibly 2 but I doubt it. It is suggested to get a reel case which retail for approximately $25.00 on this site.
