A:
I wouldnt use any electronics on a puppy under 4 months and even that would be controlled and only used to re-inforce commands that the dog already fully understands.

I want to fence about 3 acres and figure I need about 1500 feet of wire to do that. Am I correct in understanding this comes with 500 ft of wire? Can I buy additional wire through you? How much would it cost?

A:
Yes, you can buy additional wire. The manufacturer sells rolls of 500' but I think any solid gauge wire would work. Price depends on where you buy it. Make sure you buy direct burial cable and any splices are water tight.

Yes. You can hear a high pitched beeping for about 2 seconds before it shocks the dog. When it is shocking, the pitch of the beep changes so you know when your pet should be getting shocked.

Yes. I surrounded an area about 50x120 and it works great. The range adjustment on the power unit controls the effective range of the wire, but my set up only reaches 2-3 feet from the wire and keeps my dog in 99% of the time.

That shouldn't be a problem. it just depends on how much room you want your dog to have. The range can be set from the switch as far as how close to the line the dog can get without being hit. I kept mine on a pretty high setting for a while and once she realized the boundaries I turned it down. Just make sure you round the edges or it will give the dog even less room in the corners.

A:
Depending on your definition of "regular fencing wire" it is possible. Any small guage single conductor solid wire that is "direct burial" should work. If it is a non insulated wire, it could become rust or become corroded underground and stop working. But if you put the wire above ground and insulated it from the fence posts it should work either way.

A:
Generally, regular fencing wire is not burial approved. Even if the splice is above the ground, the system is not designed for such a splice and you would be asking for a short.
