It is USCG Approved/Type III, which acts as a flotation aid and are for calm/open water where a rescue will likely occur quickly. These are designed to keep the wearer in a vertical position. It is the wearer's responsibility to maneuver themselves into a face-up position, usually accomplished by tilting their head back.

I got the super size, I am 6'4" and around 280#. The vest fits me well, with room to adjust and then tighten the straps (not like a sausage casing-lol)

I am around 280# and this vest sits down to the bottom of my ribs.

however my DH who is 6'2 found it WAY too short in the torso in the L-XL size. sorry i don't know exact length since i sent it back for a return. it may vary in lengths depending on size?? my son has the xs size & the length is VERY good for him at 5'2

Our niece is almost 9, probably about 65 pounds and the XS is okay for her, though a littleloose. The S-M is good for her brothers, who are 12 & 14 and weigh 105 and 130 respectively. The 12 year old can wear the XS okay though it is a snugger fit..

Details: 
I assume this is not coast guard approved. However, when zooming in on vest you can see part of word "approved" on the inside of vest. Im not sure.
