are these boots waterproof?

they are not. You can wear them out in the rain and they will keep your feet dry to a certain point. I highyl suggest getting some water repealant spray from Bass Pro Shops and putting a few coats on them. I have two coats of Kiwi water repellent on mine and I can stand in a water puddle and stay dry.
