A:
No the winch requires much more power than any electrical socket could provide. You need to either run heavy gauge wire directly to your truck battery, or provide a separate battery in your truck bed or on your trailer. The manual recommends running wires through your vehicle undercarriage to the battery and mounting a trolling motor plug under your bumper, then plugging in the winch when you want to use it. I would estimate the additional cost of all the wiring at around $50 if you install it yourself.

I have ordered the biggest unit with the web strap as opposed to the cable. I have not received it yet but I anticipate needing to do many of the same things you did to get the best performance. I am 72 years old and often fish alone. Did you hook directly to the batteries in the engine compartment or tap off the plug at the rear of the vehicle? Joe

A:
These units require to much amperage to use your existing vehicle wiring. the manual states you need to run additional heavy gauge wiring from your battery to the rear of the vehicle, or install a seperate battery in the truck bed or on your boat trailer.

A:
All the winches come with a remote except for the cheapest model. The $20 difference in price to the next model, is the exact cost of the wireless remote, so save yourself some trouble and order the better winch.
